There are a lot of different types of document formats out there, and most of them are pretty easy to convert to another.  This tends to be less true for PDF's, because they generally aren't text editing files so much as photo files.  Recently, PDF files have gotten less suck-ish, meaning they are easier to convert to word files.  Word files are traditionally marked .doc, or, if you have the newer version of Microsoft Office, they'll be listed as .docx.  You should keep an eye out for which one it is when you get a converter.  Doc files still work on the newer versions of Office, but the .docx files generally don't work on older versions, which makes them a bit of a pain in the ass, particularly for people with the older version of word.  I once had a professor who took points off if you turned it are report in with the .docx format, which I think is completely ridiculous.  I mean, you're the professor, you should be able to figure out basic technology.  There was another professor who tried to fail our entire class saying we "didn't turn our papers in," because he couldn't figure out how to work e-mail.  What a jackass.

But that's beside the point.  Just note what you need/want it converted into.  Most PDF files are in document form anyway.  PDF, by the way, stands for Portable Document Format.  It is owned by Adobe, and they seem to be particularly popular in the professional world as you can't make alterations to the text within it.  That said, there are times when you need to be able to make notes on a PDF file, which is not really what PDF files are for, so you want to get an online PDF to word converter.  There are plenty of online PDF to word converters out there, just be careful with any file that you run through an online program.  Usually, you can count on the ones that end up higher on the Google search, simply because they get there by being reliable and workable.

There is also the option of downloading a file converter onto your computer, which might be preferable.  The nice thing about these is that they can convert any number of files to other, more useful format versions.  So once you do the PDF to word conversion, you can then change the word back to PDF, or change the .doc to .docx.  Or maybe you can convert a JPEG to a BMP or vice versa, or an MP3 to an AVI or WMV.  That always drove me crazy that Windows Media Player was so picky about everything.  It's like, hey, build us something that is somewhat accessible and we won't all switch to Macs.  No dice on that one, I suppose though.  Anyway, a lot of the time if you download music from a file sharing source like Limewire or the Napster of old days, you'll find a lot of versions of the file you want in wmv, but not in mp3.  This is a quick solve if you have a converter somewhere on your computer.

That might be getting a little more complex than we need to, however.  The point is that it's relatively easy to find an online PDF to word coverter out there, just be careful with what you use.
